Saints and Chargers “Take it Easy” Ahead of Sunday Evening’s 2nd Pre-Season Game

The New Orleans Saints wrapped up their 2nd of two scheduled joint practice sessions with the Los Angeles Chargers a short while ago, and following yesterday’s intense scrimmage where the two teams essentially “battled” each other into submission on both sides of the football; today the teams scaled back the intensity — wearing only shoulder pads and shorts.

Later in the Practice Session, both teams took off their shoulder pads as well; and held a light work-out between each other that was more reminiscent of off-season OTA’s than it was a full-scale scrimmage.

After yesterday’s intense back-and-forth exchanges between the two squads, today was much more “laid back”; and indicative of the fact that both Saints head coach Sean Payton and Chargers head coach Anthony Lynn want their respective teams to save the rest of their energy for Sunday Evening’s contest.

The joint sessions, which have taken place between the two teams for the past few years are a precursor to the 2nd preseason game that will take place this Sunday at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California in suburban Los Angeles for 3:00 p.m. Central Time, in a nationally televised game on CBS. The game will be broadcast locally in NOLA on WWL-TV Channel 4.

Those Saints not practicing today at the Chargers’ team training facility in suburban Costa Mesa included linebacker Alex Anzalone, safety Saquan Hampton, defensive back / kick returner Marcus Sherels, TE’s Josh Hill and Alize Mack, OT Ethan Greenidge, DE Geneo Grissom. and FB Michael Burton.

The Saints are scheduled to fly back to NOLA late Sunday Night, and are tentatively scheduled to resume Practice at their Training Facility in suburban Metairie on Monday Afternoon, for the final week of their 2019 Training Camp — which officially comes to an end this upcoming Thursday Morning, prior to their trip to the East Coast next weekend (next Saturday Night at 6:30 p.m. Central time) for the 3rd Pre-Season game at MetLife Stadium in New York City vs. the New York Jets…..
